Heaven is Stellar
By Shawnté Salabert

Surpassing my expectations, Sheri Grace Wenger’s Rock and Roll Heaven wasn’t just good, it was great. And a lotta damn fun.

Highlights included Brandon Joyner channeling Elvis straight through his swivelly hips; Kain Cameron (in the most ridiculous outfit of the evening, as Janis Joplin) and her powerful, throaty voice reminding the audience why she was voted Best Female Vocalist in the Charleston City Paper a few years back; Tiffany Parker doing double duty as both Dusty Springfield and Laura Brannigan and nearly busting out the Charleston Music Hall’s windows each time; and a deliciously sassy Monique Waters (Willie Mae “Big Mama” Thornton) stealing the spotlight each time she walked on stage.

Forgiven transgressions include a few stiff backup dancers and the decision to include a modern dance number to accompany Michael Garrett’s excellent voice and guitar work on “Imagine.”

Oh, and for those of you who might enjoy seeing a good-looking man wearing leather pants, I have three words for you: Jim. Morrison. Yowza.
